Ruger is move-in ready! At 3 years old, he is a good balance of youthful exuberance and mature temperament. He loves to run around in the fenced-in yard and lounge around inside the house. He was surrendered to IDR+ due to no fault of his own. With a third baby on the way, he wasn’t getting the attention he needed. He lived with a female Doberman but has no history with cats or small dogs, but his prey drive for yard critters suggests he’d be best with dogs closer to his size. He’s an athletic pup, even at a chunky 105 pounds. His foster family is working on slimming him down with lots of exercise and a balanced diet. He’s a gentle and loving boy that doesn’t know his own size, so we think he can live successfully with children 10 and up who don’t mind large dogs. Ruger went through a basic training class as a pup, but he would love a refresher course. Ruger has shown potential to make a fantastic agility dog by repeatedly jumping the 4-foot fence in his previous home, but he was always friendly when he went on an adventure around the neighborhood. To ensure his safety, he will require a 5-foot fence (not an e-fence) or leash walks, and he cannot be left outside unsupervised. Ruger is completely housebroken, crate trained, and does not mind being groomed or having his nails trimmed. He enjoys chewing on durable dog toys, but he needs to be supervised with blankets and stuffies because he enjoys shredding them to pieces. Ruger does great on car rides, enjoys belly rubs, and cuddling.
