Ready to get painted ✨ I developed a completely new technique combining a sculpture and a painting ✨ When they are finished it’s still going to be about shapes and patterns. About shadow and light ✨ I’m so excited to add these to the collection of paintings for my exhibition @barchaperonrouge when they are ready ✨ Enjoy the weekend! 🎨

I like to show how my plein air paintings compare to my actual view- they range from very similar to not even close, depending on how I choose to manipulate color. I remember this 30x40 heavy wood panel (from several years ago) blowing off the easel onto me twice - the painting suffered more injury than I did :/

While pondering any last minute additions to my current painting, I have started cutting and fraying strips of raw canvas for my next project. I'm working out ideas on how I might be playing with the cloth in the next few canvases.

Simple mind-mapping exercise for logo design process (Diablo Cold Brew Coffee).
.
This exercise helps with visualising ideas and finding more nodes that are relevant to the brand and the product. It's important to keep the process open-ended, so all ideas are very welcome at this stage- no filters! Even if it seems stupid, record all of them. Having them laid out in front of you helps to filter out the good ones and can even serve as a thread to connect remote ideas.
.
What is your process of ideation? Would love to discuss in the comments! 😁

Friendly reminder to you and to me (but mostly to me) 🤗

Inspired by some recent foggy mornings and taking another deviation from my usual style, Rosie says leave it alone, but I think it needs another layer in the foreground. The eternal debate, is it done? What do you think?

A 12x12 canvas that was started in my opus demo last weekend. I’m so glad that I am rediscovering illustration in my work. It feels like it’s been a long time since I have done that ... 🌱

It’s funny how we change through the years. Historically I was never a big morning person. But sunrise painting is such a joy. Such a great way to start the day. And the older I get the less painful rising early. The more joy I find in being up early. And you can always take a afternoon nap on vacation 😉 nothing like a good power nap 😴
All that to say don’t miss the sunrise if you can help it.
How about you- morning guru or night hawk? .

I N S E C U R E

It's a constant struggle of mine to balance honest expression and my desire to receive acceptance.

I love how Instagram has built my confidence as an artist and has given me a platform to have full creative control and direction and to share my work with such a welcoming community. However, Instagram also brings out a super insecure side to me. I find myself somedays scrolling for hours going from one perfect snapshot to the next. Fully aware that everything is filtered down to perfection but yet still feeling a sense of inadequacy. "Comparison is the theif of joy." Yet, we do it so much!
I'm learning that the measure of my success or my worth cannot come from outside sources because if it is solely based on something so subjective, I will never measure up.

Part of my security must come from an understanding that I am intrinsically valuable and valued. That no number of likes can make me more acceptable than I already am.
As long as I value myself and my work, I will always find significance and satisfaction.

Even if no other person ever acknowledged the worth of something that I love, does that mean that that thing is worthless? Does having thousands of followers and likes make me more valuable and known?
I've seen a lot of posts recently, about noticing that there's been a loss in engagement due to some algorithm changes on Instagram. I've felt the same sense of discouragement that no matter how hard I work, I seem to not be measuring up to standards of "success". It is easy to get bogged down by this, to feel like it's all meaningless.

But today, as I looked back over some of my work and I felt a sense of joy rising within, I quickly realised that as long as I value the work, it will always be meaningful.

Today, take some time to tell yourself that you are valuable and valued. Take some time to look around and see the importance of you showing up in the ways that you do. Don't let your heart be discouraged or drowned out by comparison but instead feel the simple joys of embracing all the things that make you who you are.

This piece is the first in my newest mini collection called "Remember Me".
It makes me smile.

This is another warmup I like to do now and then. I just draw what comes to my mind using only one size of brush, usually leaves and flowers. The goal is to practice painting curves and lines in a fun way. It’s interesting because it can also be a manner to brainstorm ideas and sometimes, something new and interesting emerge that I can use on a painting.
.
