"To dive into Joel Meyerowitz’s images means submerging oneself into the history of American photography of the 60’s and 70's. “This tense moment where black & white reigns as the absolute master, and also marked by color’s infancy. Up until the 70’s, color was considered commercial and relegated to advertising and fashion. I never believed in that. Black & white photography did not match my experience of the world.” Joel Meyerowitz sees the world in color, moreover, they are vivid. While he is one of color photography’s pioneers along with Stephen Shore and William Eggleston, his brothers in arms, it is an America of a totally different kind that he makes visible. Which he grasps and deepens while color would tend to only heighten its surfaces." Text by Magali Genuite.
