Day 2 Scotland 🏴 - @tullibardinewhisky – #highlands
This afternoon visit was one for golf lovers as the distillery we visited stands on the northern slopes of the Ochil hills, near the famous Gleneagles golf course.
The distillery was built in 1949 (the first “stand alone” distillery to be built since 1900) on the site of a famous medieval public brewery dating back to the XIIth century. The distillery was mothballed in 1995 and sold to a private consortium in 2003. In 2014, the French group Picard Vins & Spiritueux took over and invested heavily resulted in a new visitor centre, a bottling line, a vatting hall (blending hall), more warehouses and even a small cooperage used for repairing casks.
The production area consists of a 6 ton stainless steel semi-lauter mash tun, 9 stainless steel washbacks with a fermentation of around 55 hours and two pairs of tall stills with ascending lynes. The “Cathedral” houses over 5,000 casks.
The core range consists of Sovereign, bourbon matured without age statement, 255 Sauternes finish, 228 Burgundy finish (our final choice 🤗) and 500 Sherry finish.
A new range called Custodian’s Collection was introduced in 2015 with a 50-year-old as the first release. The latest in that range was Vintage 1962. To become a Custodian, nothing’s easier: Just write a £20,000 cheque (they even take card). We loved the burgundy Pinot noir finish and we couldn’t resist to get our hands on one of those bad boys 🤗🤗🏴🏴 #whiskey #spiritueux #bourbon #coquetel #sherry #whisky #whiskies #distillery #distilleries #washstill #spiritstill #alambic #cocktails #drinkstagram #rhum #gin #speyside #highlands #lowland #islay
