- Water (adding lemons is acceptable) -half your body weight - Apple Cider Vinegar
- Sole Water - Sparkling water
- Herbal Tea
- Homemade Bone Broth with sea salt
- Black Coffee (no sugar) up to six cups
- Small amounts of MCT oil or HWC ***per Dr. Fung’s guideline in his book and website I could have a very small amount of cream but it is habit that I am trying to break. .

These are pretty much the acceptable liquids to have. Anything else would be a extremely low calorie day but not a true fast. A big one is no sweeteners natural or not. I would mess with your insulin and it would defeat the purpose of the fast. This is perfect because I needed to take down my Stevia consumption. More on this in the books. .

👉🏻Before you even think about starting IF I recommend these two books: The Obesity Code and The Complete Guide To Fasting (pictures attached). Both amazing books. If you need to pick just one the second one would be my pick. .

This is what a 26 hour fast looks like in my world: (2pm Sat-4pm Sun.) 1) Lots of relaxing, reading a good book 📖 , drinking coffee ☕️ and water 💧 ... 2) Trying out a fast-approved recipe👩🏼🍳 to replenish some minerals (not bad at all)... 3) Keepin’ the ol’ blood sugar tame ❤️ ... 4) Breaking my fast with a big bowl of zoodles, 🍜 olive oil and parmesan cheese... 5) Feeling so good that I had to jump on the elliptical for 30 mins. 🏃🏼‍♀️ (Dammit my Ipad died right before I found out which house the House Hunters were gonna choose! 🙄) 26 hours may seem like a long time. I practice the 16/8 daily, but I like throwing in a longer one to get more benefits. 😇 So, long story, longer, I guess I just wanted to say that after experimenting with Intermittent Fasting for the last 4 months, I can definitely say that, although it may not be for everyone, it is a big yes for me. I’m 24 hours into my planned 3 day fast and I feel great! Really, I do. Making myself a “keto-ade” this evening with some pink Himalayan salt, some liquid minerals and sparkling water. Flavored water helps mask the mineral taste and I LOVE this grapefruit Topo Chico.

Fasting isn’t about starving yourself. I’m consciously abstaining from food, keeping hydrated, and actively replacing lost electrolytes so that I feel my best.

Existe uma grande diferença entre fazer dieta de restrição calórica (consumir poucas calorias) e praticar jejum intermitente (simplesmente não comer) tanto metabolicamente quanto psicologicamente❗️
Sim, sinto fome nos horários que estou acostumada a comer mas ela não vai aumentando a cada hora que estou em jejum. Ela vem e passa porque meu corpo vai retirar todas as calorias que preciso diretamente das minhas reservas de gordura 🙌🏼

Also do a shot of apple cider vinegar and lemon juice watered down once or twice a day. This is electrolyte water. Called "snake juice" bc snakes only eat once in awhile. We weren't made to eat everyday. The Bible talks about fasting for a reason. Other religions do too. When we do not give our cells time to regenerate and autophogy to happen bad things start to develop in us. Cancerous rumors, dementia, arthritis etc. fasting gives the body time to heal and eat up fat that is stored as energy. It does not eat up our muscles. That is a big myth. It cleans up! How awesome!

The influence of culture on health is vast. It affects perceptions of health, illness and death, beliefs about causes of disease, approaches to health promotion. Dietary habits and choices develop early. An infant’s eating habits are shaped by their parents in accordance with their view of what constitutes a healthy baby. Those views are shaped by society and can indirectly affect the nutrition the baby receives. I gave birth to a 5kg baby boy and we perceived him as healthier and feed accordingly to achieve such an outcome. I was about 135kg at the time and I was also perceived as being healthy and well fed. I remember when mum visited me in Australia, at the time I was on a weight loss journey. She was not happy at all. She thought I looked unhealthy because I had lost weight. That was the influence of culture and society norms. Big girl was healthy, well kept, beautiful and proper African woman and yet type two diabetes and cardiac issues are a number one killer in the world. Currently reading Dr. Jason Fung's The Complete Guide to Fasting. I started doing the 16:8 #IF protocol in February at the suggestion of one of the coaches at the calisthenics gym I frequent. Before I was even able to gather enough information about IF, I had already started noticing significant weight loss, especially in my belly area. I did not have a lot of weight to lose to start with, so it was the overall health benefits that IF offers that convinced me that IF is something I should do for life. The more I read about IF and fasting in general, the happier I am that I took up the suggestion of my coach. The more positive results I see, the more committed I am to sticking to IF.

I've been putting this off for months. It was never the right time, but I'm finally ready. Fasting is something that makes me feel powerful. My willpower is my super power. I do fasting to put my hunger in check, so I know when I'm actually hungry and not just eating by the clock. I fast to reset my immune system. I fast for autophagy benefits. Autophagy is when your body breaks down and recycles old worn out cells and replenishes and feeds the stronger cells. Making your body much more efficient and strong. Breaking down fat is also an added benefit, however, it's not the only reason I fast. Don't get it twisted. .

Happy Hump Day! I’m also half way through my swing. Just completed a 68 hour fast! Had nothing to eat except black coffee, black tea & water. Kept up my minerals with pink salt and magnesium. Worked 12 hr shifts on nights and also just finished 1 hr of cardio! How the fk did I do all this? Well I’m glad you asked! I’ve been measuring my ketone levels through the week. Ketones are converted from fatty acids in your body by your liver, when your glycogen stores are depleted. They are your energy source. 0.1 - Last Thursday when I flew back in after a heavy carb week off. 1.5 - 30 hours into my fast. 3.0 - 68 hours into my fast. Time to head back into the gym! I’ve finally reached my goal weight of 77kg, which was last week. Now it’s time to put on lean muscle. So far: Current weight 78kg, 20% Body Fat(no gym or exercise in 3 months!!) Next goal: 80-85kg, 10-12% Body Fat, Ill give myself 6 months. I’m going to continue to eat high fat, low carb Keto diet. I may increase my calories a little but not much. I’m going to continue doing extended fast and working out during them(in the middle of a 72 hour one now!) I won't pretend that I didn't just devour a #whatburger meal just a little while ago. I ate the burger without the bread but yes to the fries, which isn't true keto and more #paleo. With limited fast food options, very occasionally I'll eat within my #keto metrics, the best I can, this way if I miss the chance to meal prep. Then to meet my nutrient metrics, this dark green hellish looking deal is a liquefied blend of kale, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, water or coconunt/almond milk(for fat), and pyrue for taste. From this meal, I feel satiated but not tired from "grain brain", ready for more hot yoga later! 💪To maintain my weight loss, I've implemented intermittent fasting practices where my caloric intake happens in an 8hr period: 6hrs during the day to eat (9-3), 2 hrs to digest, and the remaining 16 hours of the day is spent letting my body clean house. I'll still ultimately avoid breads, pastas, cereals, and most beans etc. But once I've achieved my desired weight goal, I'll maintain it with a combination of practices from keto, paleo, low carb, and intermittent fasting diets. Cross stitch clears my head and keeps my hands busy!
Yesterday I made a mistake. I sent a screenshot of my current weight to a group WhatsApp containing 20 girls from school.
I gasped. I panicked. I cried and cried. But I didn’t comfort eat.
Because I am doing amazingly. My weight is still high but it’s 54lbs lower than its highest weight. I feel amazing.
And you know what? They were lovely. And supportive. And congratulatory. And didn’t make fun of me.
And I didn’t eat. I carried on with my 48 hour fast. I didn’t break early and the world didn’t end.
Instead. I cross stitched. It keeps my hands and my mind busy. And I produce awesome cute little samplers. And I’m happy.
I recommend a little hobby like this for anyone looking to take food out of their hands and put something else in!
