To @crossfitdutchkills and @citystrongman:
It’s only January 2nd and I’ve already had two stop in my track moments.
1. On Monday, January 1st, 50 of our athletes demonstrated their committed to fitness in 2019 and sacrificed wild NYE plans to rest up for the first CrossFit Dutch Kills WOD of 2019. They showed up ready to work, listened to understand the workouts intent and adjusted the ask for the desired intensity. They worked incredibly well together and not one ego was found that day. When we relaunched as CFDK, we had many athletes step-up and support our facility. These were athletes from all over NYC and other affiliates that I had the privilege of coaching throughout the years, but for logistical purposes could not make a full-time commitment. I’ll always remember one of my most loyal member’s comments at the time. “I love that the place is busy, but I just wish for you that these would be our recurring, local members.” While we have a long way to go, I’m grateful for the community we are forming and the accountability to which you all hold each other. Our success today is very much due to those early day athletes willingness to travel and bring energy to our early days classes. I’ll be forever grateful.
2. Tonight one of our members simply thanked me for “making CrossFit fun again.” Making someone new to fitness or burnt out from other fitness regimens fall in love with CrossFit is fairly easy. Making someone with extensive CrossFit experience, who experienced many different boxes, in many different states, who may have continued to do CrossFit simply because it became habit actually enjoy it again is priceless. At CFDK it’s our mission to keep it simple, get back to basics and ensure workouts are empowering, encouraging, fun, leaving you wanting more. 📸: @lisahaefnerphoto
