As per our usual Sunday outing, the wife and I stopped by Old Black Bear Brewery for a Sunday Brunch. Old Black Bear came as a recommendation from my Sister-in-Law. Neither my wife, nor I are big beer drinkers so I was a little apprehensive the first time. We arrived and were seated promptly. As we perused the menu, I noticed that the other patrons ranged from Church-goers to families to hop enthusiast out trying the local flavor, so a place for any and all. I was very surprised to see a menu that ranged from classic breakfast fare to traditional pub food. I was torn between the Pimento Cheese Burger and the Chicken and Waffles. My wife went with the Salmon BLT Sandwich, and I had the waiter choose for me. He was a burger guy, and it didn’t disappoint. Arriving with pimento cheese oozing from the sides of the bun, it looked and smelled heavenly! Biting into it with a stack of fried onions straw/rings on it added just the right crunch. The shoestring fries were served with sea salt and went down with ease. After glancing over, I noticed my wife’s Salmon Sandwich was over half gone, but she had the look of defeat on her face. She wanted to savor every last morsel, but just couldn’t take another bite.
I am not sure if they serve the same menu daily or they have a special brunch menu, but I can see that it will quickly become a regular dining spot for us. At $42.98 for a burger, a sandwich, 2 sweet teas and tip, this falls in the middle of fast casual dinning and fancy restaurant meal. With the hearty portions and wide variety menu, I look forward to coming back to try different items.
