Review: It's been DineLA here in Los Angeles for the last two weeks where restaurants all over the city offer a fixed menu at set prices. This is a great way to try new restaurants and get yourself an appetizer, main meal, and dessert at a discounted price from what you’d normally would pay. I decided to go to Water Grill in Santa Monica, a great seafood restaurant that I had been to once a few years back. For my appetizer I selected the salmon crudo with pink grapfruit and pumpernickel, my main was the scallops with a cauliflower puree, pickled golden raisins and a soy brown butter sauce, and for dessert I ordered the caramel bread pudding. The flavors were great and everything was delicious but for the price point it wasn't worth it. It's normally a very expensive restaurant and the quality of seafood is very good but my main meal consisted of three scallops. THREE! I ate it all in about 2 minutes. I don't know if that's what they normally serve but that is not a main meal, that is barely an appetizer. I was surprised by how little they gave you. Again, I agree that it was expertly prepared and the flavors were delicious but it was not worth the price.
JanEatsWorld rating: B+ for flavor and taste, D for portion size and value. Overall, don't come here for Dine LA and if you do, maybe the fish dishes have bigger portions?
