Siberian Ibex in the National Park Ala-Archa 🐏 about 60 meters apart from us. There’re also some little ones, so cute. It was breathtaking to watch them, so wild and free.

A lichen -patterned Book of Life. Angela, whose marriage I presided at over twenty years ago, is one of the world's leading experts on lichen. She told me the story of Simon Schwendener, the Swiss botanist, who was the first person to realise that lichen is a symbiosis of two separate organisms, a fungus and a n alga which have grown to be interdependent. It took a long while for this hypothesis to be accepted by the scientific community. Schwendener's lichen samples were destroyed during the Allied bombing of Berlin. Let this lichen book be a memorial to that destroyed collection and a manifestation of lichen's symbiotic relationship, teaching us that aggressive competition is not the whole story of creaturely life. #lichens #interdependence #ecology #symbiosis

Dead wood overtaken by turkey tail. Trametes versicolor is a type of bracket polypore. T.versicolor is known for its medicinal uses both in ancient alternative treatments and for research in cancer medicines. This seems to be common in the seemingly magical polypore fungus #turkeytail #herbalist #trametesversicolor #bracketfungi #bracketfungus #polyporemushroom #immuneboosting #immunebooster #mushrooms #mushroomidentification #mushroomsociety #mushroomporn
