THE BRIDAL CAR THAT SHOULD GIVE A JOLT TO ANY WEDDING
Love is in the air, and so is the electricity, at one corner of the ongoing Manila International Auto Show at the World Trade Center Metro Manila in Pasay City. TessDrive spotted this Tesla SUV on display, which is also being offered as a bridal car. A quite novel way to get driven to church, indeed. In a geeky way, perhaps. But you'll be shocked a bit at the going rate: P19,900 for 4 hours.
This 7-seater all-electric SUV Tesla Model X 75 D has attracted quite a sizeable crowd at the show, and maybe not a few soon-to-be newlyweds are already inquiring about its services.
The more important question, though, is this: Is the local market ready to say "yes" to a long-term relationship with electric vehicles (EVs), even if the asking prices for them are still steep?
That's a matter only more time--and courting by local EV advocates and producers--can tell. For now, and until Sunday night only, young and old alike are taking their fill of selfies with the bridal-car-to-be. The Tesla X 75 D is touted by its makers as the safest-ever SUV, with standard all-wheel drive, best-in-class storage and seating for up to seven adults, and a 5-Star safety rating in every category, according to the Tesla website.
The range, according to specs posted on the vehicle’s window, is 381 km in one charging. And like a dove released by the happy newlyweds, the X 75 D has falcon wing doors that spread out to let the bride in and out.
The rental rate also goes with an additional charge of P1,500 per hour in excess of the four hours.
And there are a lot of other conditions: "From hotel/house-church-reception only. Within Metro Manila only." But it does come "with driver and bouquet." Bad news for the grooms (and brides) who might be harboring thoughts of getting off on a joyride before returning the unit.
If you want to see the "romanticized" version of Elon Musk's EV SUV, go like a lightning and bolt on over to the WTC.
