"Learning how to turn around on a branch still gives me a small degree of difficulty...especially when I just flew across the road and made the woman in the car scream when she almost hit me!
Thankfully, we just missed each other - and if I'm lucky, I will learn from that experience and not do it again!"
I like to think and hope that those are the thoughts going on inside this very young Red-tailed Hawk - the facts are that the first year of a raptor's life comes with an 80% mortality rate. And these are very 'suburban' raptors, with no fear yet developed of front yards, cars, or people who get close to them. These are the only times you can get close to them, for once they wise up, Red-tailed Hawks are notorious for being the most skittish bird of prey in North America!
