Why I run . . .
My four miles today was probably pushing it a little - but with temps in the 50’s and a view like this I just couldn’t hold myself back. I kept my pace slow (I say that like it was a choice - it wasn’t. It’s hard to run when you can’t breathe out of your nose ). And took breaks to blow my nose. But during my run I felt better than I have in days.
You can see smiling in the next photo.
The truth is I run because I to run. And after a few days on the couch I am itching to get back out there. I’ll never be the fastest or the strongest or run the farthest, but running is in my heart.
I love the the beauty of the natural world. I love pushing my body and feeling alive. I love conquering new hills or setting personal bests. I love doing something just for me, something that a lot of people are afraid to even try. And, I’m not going to lie, I love the 30 minutes or 2 hours, of quiet time, me time, zone out time.
I didn’t always feel this way. I didn’t run “seriously” until I was almost 40. But for the past 5 years it’s been a huge part of my life.
I’ve learned to run in the sweltering heat, in 90% humidity, pounding rain and freezing cold.
I’ve learned that I can do way more than I thought I could and that my biggest obstacles are in my head.
I’ve learned that I am a runner. And it’s an identity I’m proud of.
