When I was 15 years old I was sitting on a train in Sydney Australia. The rain was pouring down the windows and I had some music playing in my headphones. A new song came on called 'The Whiteroom'. At first the beat kicked in and I didn't think too much of it, but the song progressed. The rain kept smashing against the window next to me and with each droplet the song went on... First the vocal chops caught my attention, then the chord progression, then the percussion... Suddenly I was lost in the best possible way. I didn't just love the song - I admired it, I respected it, I wanted to be able to make something just as beautiful. This song has been the most important trance record in the history of my career, and perhaps it will remain my favourite.
Life is crazy, flash forward to recent times. At the end of 2018 I was asked to remix 'The Whiteroom'. At first I said no... not because I didn't want to, but because I was scared that I couldn't ever live up to the original. I thought about this for a few days, I was torn. Why remix something that's so perfect already? But how could I say no? This song was beyond anything that I had heard before. So here I am…. I’ve remixed it. I’ve added my own flavour. I have been so careful to not hurt the true ‘essence’ of what makes this song so incredible and sustain its beauty. The good thing is that I feel confident about what I’ve done.. But who am I to judge, I remixed a song so perfect that I don’t believe any remix could do it justice. So here it is, this is my 2019 take on ‘The Whiteroom’.
