Hip luxations or dislocation of the coxofemoral joint is the most frequent type of location of the dog with craniodorsal, as seen here, being the most common. There can be many causes of hip luxations with trauma being the number one cause even tho spontaneous luxations can occur.
A closed reduction can be attempted but is usually unsuccessful due to compounding fractures, Hip dysplasia, fibrous tissue from time, and etc. After reduction a bandage is applied to immobilize the limb.
Surgical treatment has many options and usually is what is required to fix the hip.
