Happy Tuesday, friends! I get questions about a lot of the same topics fairly often, so I’m taking a few posts to answer some of the most frequent ones! Let me know if there are any topics you want to learn more about and we can explore them together. Here we go!
+ What are essential oils?
Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts obtained by careful steam distillation, cold pressing or resin tapping. They have a distinctive molecular profile that gives them specific aromas and properties. Oils have been used for thousands of years for everything from cosmetic and dietary purposes to spiritual and religious use. I believe that essential oils are the best of nature distilled and that they have the power to elevate, motivate and inspire.
+ How do I use essential oils?
There are three ways to use oils: aromatically, topically and internally. All of these ways allow oils to enter your system, cross the blood brain barrier and get to work in your brain and body within minutes. Your body has many ways to respond to oils— via your olfactory nerve and limbic system in the brain, through your blood stream and via cell receptors all over the body.
+ How can essential oils impact my wellness?
Oils contain chemical properties that have the power to positively interact with your entire body. Did you know that Grapefruit Vitality can help support healthy weight management, Cedarwood is great for healthy hair growth, and Lavender is excellent for sleep? We also have essential oils that support digestion, like DiGize and Peppermint Vitality, provide a calming aroma like Peace + Calming, or contain grounding properties like Valor. I post often about practical ways I use oils, so feel free to poke around.
+ Why Young Living?
Because the FDA does not regulate the essential oil industry, synthetics, contaminants, cheap fillers, and unethical production practices are very common in the essential oil world. But since YL has developed their own Seed to Seal standard, anything short of 100% pure is not an option for their oils. Every oil is tested rigorously (over 90 times!) after it’s distilled, and only the purest make the cut.
