Video by @ChristineEckstrom When you enter the nursery at the Lola ya Bonobo sanctuary in the Congo you immediately become a playmate for young bonobos, who wreak havoc with visitors. They’re strong, fast and skilled pickpockets too. What happened to those glasses I had in my pocket when I arrived? Hard to believe that these little rascals arrived at Lola as traumatized orphans who lost their mothers due to the insidious effects of the bushmeat and pet trade. Loving care from a team of surrogate human mothers gives them a new lease on life. Lola is the only place in the Congo—and the world— that is dedicated 100% to bonobos and their care. Check them out @LolayaBonobo and give them your support. And follow us @FransLanting, @ChristineEckstrom and @Ashley_Judd as we dive deeper into the world of bonobos and the people who care about them.

If I ever forget to get outside and enjoy my immediate surroundings, the summer solstice always refreshes my perspective. Today the sun is going to be shining the longest it will be all year, drenching California in more gold than usual. But not just here - it’s the height of summer all across northern hemisphere. Just think, billions of people in celebration of the greatest life-force planet earth has ever known. As for where I celebrate, I think there’s nowhere better than my true home - the great Pacific.

“This Pharaoh Eagle-owl chick was hiding amongst the long yellow grass for a while, so I got down on the ground for an eye-level shot, and waited,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Mohammad Murad. “Then the owl felt safe, or curious enough to raise its head and look at me. Since I was on the ground, everything was washed out perfectly giving this flaming effect!”

Hello, world! Meet today’s #WeeklyFluff: Nelly (@missenell), a Ragdoll-Birman cat mix who’s just looking for a way to cool off. 😻 🍉 “Last week, it was extremely hot in Denmark, so we brought a watermelon home to have a cool summer treat,” says her human Mikkel, a nursing student. “Before we knew it, Nelly climbed onto the watermelon and just sat there. It was quite the sight.”
