Et in Arcadia Ego. New little gap filler by the amazing @mongenastattoo from his flash. Got a few other pieces recently that I’m looking forward to sharing once they’re healed as well.

Nicolas Poussin „ET IN ARCADIA EGO” Another title of this masterpiece is „Les bergers d'Arcadie”, Musée du Louvre, Paris, 1638-1640, oil on canvas, 85 × 121 cm.
The translation of the phrase is "Even in Arcadia, there am I". The mood, silence, reverie, and a disturbing landscape in the background. Strange, this is a land of eternal happiness, paradise. In this part of Poussin's work, we can see the landscape, constituting the background for the main stage depicted in the picture. Poussin placed a laurel tree directly behind the sarcophagus, the woman and one of the shepherds standing by. The rocky ridge in the Poussin’s Arcadia resembles the shape of Les Pontils near Château Argues, just five kilometers from Rennes-le-Château. How strange was the fate of the sarcophagus of Les Pontils, which after the demolition in the eighteenth century, was rebuilt at the beginning of the twentieth century, and eventually disappeared in 1988.

The translation of the phrase is "Even in Arcadia, there am I". The mood, silence, reverie, and a disturbing landscape in the background. Strange, this is a land of eternal happiness, paradise. This mysterious inscription "Et In Arcadia Ego", from which Poussin took the name for his work, is on the sarcophagus. We see two outstretched hands of the Arcadian shepherds. One of them points his finger at the inscription from a short distance. The second one touches the letter R in the word ARCADIA of the inscription on the sarcophagus. The shadow cast by his hand resembles a scythe to the illusion, the attribute of Death.

In this part of Poussin’s painting we see the third of the shepherds. He kneels on his left knee in front of the sarcophagus. He has blue robes, light blue sandals and a laurel wreath on his head. He holds a shepherd's stick in his left hand, while the outstretched finger of his right hand points to the inscription on the sarcophagus. He touches one of the letters of the inscription with his finger. The shadow, thrown on the sarcophagus by his index finger and all of his right hand resembles a scythe. This is the attribute of Death.

Italianità
_

He has bright robes, and what distinguishes him from the other shepherds is barefoot, without sandals. On the head, he has a laurel wreath. He is bowed, thoughtful, full of melancholy. He looks sadly at the inscription on the sarcophagus.
