Yesterday I was having a conversation with an old friend about the good old days when I was a bartender and how far I’ve come since then. He just wanted to tell me how much he admires my strength, not only physically but mentally. I was super flattered of course, but it got me thinking 🤔.

#ExpectationvsReality 😅 Physical strength is only a fraction of what it takes to progress & be a better version of yourself every single day, in every area of your life. This is where the 3 P’s come in - they’re what make up the mental strength to continue moving forward 💪🏻 So what I want you to remember is that it takes mental strength in order to build physical strength - be patient, be persistent, & you will persevere ⚡️💛😉.

What a fabulous start to a Friday with this group of ladies. There were three newbies to this type of speed focussed run session and as such, there was a palpable air of trepidation...BUT they all dug deep and told the negative committee in their heads to shut up! It’s incredible what you can achieve with a positive mindset!

I have trouble calling myself an athlete. I have never considered myself an athlete. I didn’t grow up playing sports and was never really active until the last 4 years. ⁣⁣

But this year I have tested my athletic abilities and I achieved the goals I set for myself: I trained and competed as a powerlifter. I ran my first Spartan and my first Tough Mudder Full. I trained for and ran my first 5K without walking. I pushed myself outside of my comfort. I trained when I didn’t feel like it. I am in constant competition with myself and what is most amazing to me is that I love it. I want to get stronger and faster and I want to push myself to see what I’m capable of when I don’t give up. ⁣⁣

I haven't done wall walks in 4 years (back to the days when I was doing CrossFit). I was surprised that I could do them fairly well but they did tire me out pretty quick.

Kettlebells have certainly helped me gain strength in the past couple of years, however I have lacked in other areas where my fitness is concerned.

These days I am quite focussed on improving my conditioning and working on areas and movements that I am weak at. I believe there are far more benefits for me at 52 and in the years to come.

One day chasing strength will be tougher as I age, I know that and accept it. I will still chase strength but I will also learn to get better at a variety of other functional movements so that I can still do this 20 years from now.

If you would like to add a little more of a challenge to your Overhead Press, try it with kettlebells. Since kettlebells are shaped to be distribute weight differently than a dumbbell, it can test your shoulder stability as well as your core strength.

Clean the bells into the rack position and maintain a tall posture. Make sure to keep the core engaged through the press, firing the lats and keeping the upper traps relaxed while avoiding rib flare.
Pull the bells back into the rack position, resting the bells on the biceps.

Give it a try and see if kettlebells test you differently than dumbbells!

Although it may feel like you don’t have time or yourself, the REAL TRUTH is... you’re procrastinating and sitting in fear.

Getting back into action, and can I say, even reaching a level of thriving after an injury or health challenge requires you to create a new identity & focus for how you take care of YOURSELF.
AND
It’s scary. It’s uncomfortable.
.
Let’s also be honest that you have the time, you just need to make it. All the other things you have going on don’t require your focus 💯% of the time.
.
Let’s face it too that you’re likely scrolling the gram looking for inspiration, and you end up playing the compare and despair game.
.
You talk yourself out of taking any action because on some level you believe it’s not worth it.
.
Have you heard that, “overwhelm is another word for lack of action.”
.
The longer you sit in overwhelm the more things come to a stand still, then paralysis sets in.
.
Action is the way through it.
Any action to move the energy.
.
When you find yourself ...
Trying to do it perfectly.
Trying to get it right.
Looking at how others are doing it.
Comparing the way you’d do it to how others do it.
INSTEAD
Ignore the noise
AND
Do the damn thing!

Common Run Technique Errors #2
❌ Heel Strike⠀
The heel strike error 🏃‍♂️ is generally accompanied by the landing in front of general centre of mass error. It takes all the issues associated with that error and gives you the added bonus of landing 💥 on an unforgiving area of your body that isn’t designed to be landed on. ⠀

Try this. Stand up. Now jump up and down as though you’re jumping rope. Go on.... we’ll wait. ⏱⠀

How did that feel; Ok? Like you could do it for a while?⠀
.⠀
Now try this. Do the same thing but jump up and down on your heels……😬⠀

Didn’t feel so great did it? 😖⠀
.⠀
Now why would we do that exact same thing while running? 🤷🏽‍♂️ Makes no sense, right?⠀

Even if you’re wearing shoes with thick, cushioned heels it still makes no sense. Especially given science has shown that the more cushioning you have in your shoes, the more force you’re subjected too. Crazy huh!?⠀

🔑 Your point of landing should be the ball of your foot, not the toes, with your heel lightly kissing the ground immediately after. This heel kiss is crucial to momentarily unloading your calves and reducing muscle contraction while maintaining muscle elasticity. Without this heel kiss, your calves may just 💥!⠀

Idag var det dags att nöta lite på rycken igen.
Blev ett ganska bra teknikpass först som gav feeling till ett PB-försök.
Första lyftet 60kg, andra 65 och därmed tangerat tidigare PB, sista snutten 70kg och därmed nytt PB.
Analysen från filmerna säger att styrkan finns för att nå årsmålet som är kroppsvikt (82,5kg) om jag lyckas få till timingen, klippet i höften och vågar dyka under stången ordentligt... 🤔
Det är ju gott om tid... eller? 😂
Aja, glad ändå. Ett PB är ett PB. 🏋🏻‍♂️🌟
