Welcome to another episode of Yoga In Pajamas! Today is for Client J, who reports lower back pain possibly due to strain from weight lifting. He has no limited movement and is in good overall health. J should continue to practice the first episode with Cat-Cow stretches, and add this series of stretches to his routine. Lower back pain can also be caused by poor posture, unsupportive footwear, weak core strength, and lifting heavy weight using back muscles instead of legs (which are stronger & more powerful!). Adding yoga stretches, core strengthening exercises, supportive daily footwear & post-workout epson salt baths can help with recovery.

Welcome to another episode of Yoga In Pajamas! I am showing you a five minute practice in 45 seconds. I always tell my students, if you can only do one thing, do a Cat/Cow combo. Why? Because there are SO many benefits from this stretch: relieves tension and increases flexibility of neck, shoulders, spine, hips, abs, & chest, improves posture & balance, great for Sciatica pain, offers all the benefits of a heart opener pose, and tones all the muscles in the torso. Fun fact: this pose got me through 3 natural child births, it was a great pose of comfort and helped get things going (time to go baby!). A long time ago a teacher told me that the fountain of youth lives in the spinal cord, which makes sense since it’s the main highway of the CNS and the primary channel for life force energy.

It’s too cold and too dark to drag my ass to class, I don’t want to leave my house and I don’t want to change into exercise clothes, so here is a 10 minute morning stretch (in hyper speed) to help get moving. Match your breath with every movement, inhale up/exhale down, check in after every set and notice any changes in the body. The noticing is what strengthens the mind/body connection.
Today’s stretch focuses on opening the chest and back, open the heart and make room to let love in, and send love out! Who do you know that needs extra TLC today? The more we focus on what we already have, the more we end up having to be grateful for. A practice of gratitude is also one of the most powerful and FREE forms of self-care. My heart is so full I cry in the most random moments!
