A Patch of Yellow
Jiuzhaigou, Chinese for Nine Village Valley, is a popular national park and UNESCO world heritage site in China. It’s so popular that they cap daily visits at 41,000 people per day during fall colour! Our guide joked that 2 million selfies were being taken there a day. He might not have been so far off.
By the last day of our stay, we had finally worked out how to feel that we had the park to ourselves. Since everyone goes to the mountain top first thing in the morning, we stayed at the bottom then and went up as everyone was coming down, confusing all of the bus drivers and guides but thankfully they still took us up the mountain.
On our way to the aptly named Panda Lake, there was a magnificent display of fall colour, with a special patch of yellow trees so, naturally, we had to make an emergency stop!
