Today was a very special day for me. Over 16 years ago my friend Matt Taylor commissioned me to draw him his first tattoo. This tattoo was a family tradition that all the men in his family have gotten for generations. We were 15 or 16 years old and Matt had me draw his as a skull. This was the moment in my life that I realized I could make art and make money doing it. I could create something out of my mind and people actually wanted it. As I did different things creatively I always looked back to that, and i became recognized for making that design. As a kid, it was a great feeling and really spurred me and my art to a new level.
Skip to 2018. Today. A nice lady named Sarah came in asking about a new tattoo. It was a family tattoo of a moth that in later incarnations, became a butterfly. After asking her a few questions I realized the significance of this tattoo for me, and proclaimed it outloud probably scaring Sarah, but she was stoked none the less, because shes related to the Taylor family and this is the SAME FAMILY TATTOO. I couldn't even believe it. Sometimes the universe gives you a nod that you're doing good, and doing the right thing. That was apparent to me today and I'm grateful. This one meant a lot to me and I'm thankful for how far I've come, and how far I still need to go. @mvtt_tvylor
