This #fashionfriday discover Tongoro, the Senegal-based brand that caught Beyoncé’s eye.
But what does it feel like to see your clothes on one of the world’s most iconic stars? @dioufsarah the founder and creative director of Tongoro told CNN:
“I still can’t wrap my head around it; I look at the pictures every morning and pinch myself. It’s truly amazing, I mean, it’s Beyoncé. From a cultural point of view, it means so much, it’s everything coming full circle, and the result of hard and smart work. From a marketing point of view, it’s universal exposure and an unthinkable impact on the business.”
Diouf‘s goal for the brand is to be the first African fashion online retailer:
“Before launching the brand, I observed and studied the African retail landscape to find out there was not an African brand/retailer available in different countries ; at the time, someone living in South Africa for instance, to buy a Nigerian brand, would need to fly to Lagos to get a piece. Now a lot has changed, many of our brands have online platforms, but to dress a whole continent, and the rest of the world, our prices have to be appealing enough for everyone to be able to at least, try. I believe that is the strength of Tongoro.” #tongoro #senegalesefashion #Africanfashion #madeinafrica
