Your vertical jump is a huge sign of how athletic and explosive you are. However so many have failed trying to jump higher!Jumping requires a huge power output. The definition of power in sport is “the ability to exert a maximal force in as short a time as possible”. This means both speed and strength play a huge factor in increasing your vertical.

The high bar squat is the best exercise to increase strength required for jumping higher. This is because the movement pattern for the high bar squat is very similar to the movement pattern of a jump. Heavy weight and low reps in the high bar squat will be very effective in increasing your vertical jump. A good target is having a 1rm of 1.5xBw squat.

Plyometrics are key to increasing your speed while jumping. Plyometrics takes advantage of the stretch-shortening of a muscle. This is an important part of the vertical jump because it allows you to jump higher. Plyometrics such as box jumps and depth jumps are very specific to a vertical jump for the same reasons as the squat plus you are practising the correct form for jumping and landing. These should be done at near maximum intensity, low reps and long rest periods.

Plyometrics and high bar squats should be adapted correctly into your training plan if your goal is to improve overall athleticism and explosiveness. Losing fat for overweight athletes will also help drastically as the vertical jump is a body weight exercise. Patience and recovery is key to improving your vertical jump as explosive power is dependent on so many factors meaning some days you won’t jump well and others you will jump higher than you thought you could. I made a lot of mistakes a long the way and I don't want you to do the same!Stick to these points and you will improve your vertical jump drastically.

When your mitochondria are not working properly, you suffer all the symptoms of low energy: fatigue, memory loss, pain, rapid aging, and more. For me, discovering the importance of mitochondria and how to optimize their function was a huge part of my personal healing journey.⠀

Mitochondria are key energy sources for our bodies. They are tiny factories housed within our cells that take the foods we eat and the oxygen we breathe and convert them into energy. Each cell holds hundreds or thousands of mitochondria; they are found in greater concentrations in active organs and tissues like the heart, brain, and muscles.⠀

There are many things you can do to boost and protect your mitochondria:⠀
1) Get moving. You might try interval training, which increases the efficiency and function of your mitochondria, and/or strength training, which increases the amount of muscle and the number of mitochondria.⠀
2) Avoid processed, junk food, sugar and empty calories. Instead eat whole real, colorful plant food—fresh vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts, seeds, and whole grains, they are full of antioxidants and phytonutrients.⠀
3) Increase your intake of omega-3 fats to help build your mitochondrial membranes. Be sure to include things like salmon, mackerel, sardines, anchovies, chia seeds, flax seeds, hemp seeds, walnuts, and egg yolks.⠀
4) Detoxify. Drink plenty of clean water. Keep your bowels moving, at least once or twice a day. Sweat profusely at least three times a week, using a sauna, steam, or a detox bath. Relax deeply every day to get your nervous system in a state of calm, rest, and relaxation.⠀
5) Take mitochondria protective and energy boosting nutrients such as acetyl-L-carnitine, alpha lipoic acid, coenzyme Q10, n-acetyl-cysteine, NADH, D-ribose, resveratrol, and magnesium aspartate.⠀
