On this #ThrowbackThursday we go back to our humble beginnings in 1979 when a small but determined group of local women in #LanarkCounty came together to offer a handful of abused women and their children a safe shelter and support. In the first photo, you will see our initial 15-bed shelter which opened its doors in 1983. In the second photo, you will see one of our dedicated staff members fielding a call to our 24-hour crisis line.
Fast forward to present day and we are still going strong in supporting women and their children who are impacted by violence with our emergency shelter and 24-hour crisis-line. But we've also been able to expand our services over time to include transitional housing support, and a wide-range of community outreach support services, including sexual assault support and many other programs.
Across all programs and services, we supported 4,750 women, children and youth faced with and healing from violence. We wish this demand for support and resources did not exist but it does, and we are here if you need us.
The next step to continue the strong and necessary support of women and children in Lanark County will be through building Second Stage Housing - the first-ever of its kind in Lanark County. We hope you will join us March 22nd in #PerthOntario at @thestonecellarrestaurant for our #FeedtheFight Fundraiser to help launch this new program. It's not just a fun night out (which we guarantee), but it's also an opportunity to make an impactful investment in your Lanark County community. We hope to see you there (tickets at link in bio). #LanarkCountyEvents #PerthOntarioEvents #tbt
