Say hello to today’s #workinggallwednesday and #ladyboss Natasha Fritz, owner of @naturalcarpentry! “When I was young I always enjoyed creating things; whether is be arts and crafts, doing a puzzle or making something out of building blocks. I was fortunate to have grown up spending a lot of time at my grandparents house where my Grandpa had a wood working shop. He was a retired carpenter and had built a shop on their property where he would do woodworking. I would often go down to his shop and spend time there watching him work or “helping” him. Sometimes he would even help me with little projects, one of my favourites was making a dog house for one of my stuffed animals.
As I got older I continued to take shop classes through high school; it was always my favourite class but to be honest I never considered it as a career option. In my last year of high school I took a co-op in a cabinetry shop. It was a small one man shop but the owner (Mark) was highly skilled and organized. He produced very high end millwork, was highly sought after and worked in some very prestigious neighbourhoods in our area. This was a big turning point for me because I realized not only could people make a living building things, they could be successful doing it and the work was very fulfilling.
When I was applying for post secondary school I applied to a wide variety of programs; I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I applied to one carpentry program. To help me make my decision my mom took me around to some of the schools I applied too while they were doing their open houses. As soon as we went to the open house at the trade school I had applied too I knew “This is for me”. It was just a feeling I had that this was my path.” What an inspirational journey, @naturalcarpentry! You never know where life may take you, and like Natasha, it could be from hanging out in Grandpa’s shop to owning your very own! #tradeswoman #womenintrades #tradeswomenofig #carpentry #womenincarpentry #womenwhobuild #kickasscareers #buildadream
