Noon Fly (Mesembrina meridiana)
So called because they like to bask in sunshine. You can find them on tree trunks, fence posts, stones or cow pats, , soaking up the sun. Adults feed on nectar, pollen and ripened fruit. .
Mating takes place mainly on cow dung. Females place one egg per cow pat. Eggs hatch before or within an hour of being laid. The larvae are carnivorous and will eat the larvae of other flies developing in the dung. 🧡🖤🐄💩😝
