The Tempest (August 2019). Produced by @vastage and #publicworksvirginia under the direction of Patrick Mullins, this show was an impressive artistic feat, combining professional theatre and local performance art communities such as Teens with a Purpose, Atumpan, and the Philippine Cultural Cultural Center. Combining Shakespeare with original music composed by @thejakehull , American Sign Language, dramatic puppetry, spoken word, traditional drumming, and traditional Tinikling, the show truly created a whole other world of magic and wonder while conveying one of Shakespeare’s most iconic works.
During this production, I had the honor of playing the green Ariel of the Ariel Ensemble—a group of spirits portraying the collective consciousness of the famous air spirit and servant of Prospero (in our case, Prospera), Ariel. Spunky, mischievous, but soulful, the Ariels were a such a delightful and talented group to work with, and this role was truly a delight to portray.
