MOVIE REVIEW: The Meg - #Repost @temmahareviews
The Meg is a 2018 action film directed by Jon Turteltaub. It stars Jason Statham, Li Bing Bing and Rainn Wilson. The film is about a group of scientists who accidentally release a prehistoric shark, The Megalodon, to wreak havoc across the sea. It is up to Jonas and his crew to put an end to her before it is too late.
So, Is The Meg as fun as promises to be? It’s mindless, loud and dumb; but it’s not exactly trying to be anything else. In terms of monster movies, this is easily better than Jurassic World 2 as it gets the price of admissions worth with it’s thrills and kills. .
JASON STATHAM: Pit the man up against anything and he’ll look good trying to beat it. This time, Statham goes head to head with a prehistoric shark with a host of good one-liners and memorable stunts. He’s charismatic and charming as usual, and this movie would have been almost unwatchable without him.
MUSIC: The surprising positive about this film is how good the soundtrack was. I didn’t expect something so tense and filled with heavy-hitting bass. The action scenes and horror scenes are done surprisingly well.
GORE: There is little to no gore at all in this film, and I do believe that was a missed opportunity. You cannot possibly expect to stay 100% clean without a drop of blood in a shark movie, it wouldn’t be realistic otherwise. This film throws away that sense of realism for a more PG, family-friendly experience and it did hurt the movie at the end. .
PANDERING: Albeit the pandering to the Chinese crowd in this film was less than Transformers or even Pacific Rim, most of it was still poorly blatant and very on-the-nose. Li Bing Bing is the best she’s ever been in a Hollywood movie, but that’s not saying much because she was awful in every one she’s been in before.
