Toxic.. [tŏk′sĭk] adj. ‘Of, relating to, or caused by a toxin or poison; poisonous; a toxic drug. Harmful or deadly; Causing unpleasant feelings;’
Some relationships are like poison to our system. Our environment is unhealthy, the situation drains our life force, we dwell in unpleasant feelings. Yet we stay.
We continue to drink the poison, knowing that we are slowly dying inside, but at the same time strangely addicted to that which causes us harm.
Some say alcohol is a poison, or sugar even, yet many indulge.. because it makes us feel good (for small windows of time) just like these relationships do. .
We live for the small moments of joy and keep waiting to see glimpses of the person we fell in love with. The one we knew at the beginning, the one who was affectionate, with the happy go lucky side, who wasn't dismissive, selfish or critical.
That’s the addiction. Waiting. Hoping. Hooked. .
We can’t flourish in toxic environments, we don’t grow and thrive, we shrink and become self conscious, our self esteem lowers.
It is up to us to break the cycle. To say no more. It’s up to us to choose us, put the poison away and begin to heal, once and for all.
