I didn't really have any plans for North Eastern India. I entered India back from Nepal near the Sikkim region of India with 5 days to get to the border with Myanmar. I heard a little bit about Sikkim that it's a nice area but didn't do any research.
If I wanted to I could get to the border with Myanmar in 3 days so decided to spend a bit of time riding around Sikkim. By the time me and Mark got across the border into India it was mid day. From Siliguri we rode north to Gangtok. Some of the roads were a bit bad (broken up tarmac) but most of the time road was nice and twisty and the scenery was very nice. We got to Gangtok with less than an hour of daylight left so it was a good place to stop for the night.
The town was very busy with traffic, I had a quick look at iOverlander app (that I sometimes use to find camp spots and guest houses) and there was a recommendation about 100 Petals hotel. When we got there my first thought was "this looks way too expensive, will need to find something cheaper" but the owner when he saw us arriving he welcomed us with a smile and made sure that the room would fit our budget. It was one of the nicest hotels I stayed at during my trip so far. The owners are bikers themselves and they helped us out with the routes etc.
In the morning we headed back south but using different roads this time. Roads were mostly offroady, there was some deep mud but also some really nice twisty tarmac on some 30 or 40km stretch. And the scenery was beautiful. At the end we rode through area with a lot of tea gardens, I wished we had more time to stop more and see more of Sikkim.
Got back to the main highway heading east just as it got dark and continued for another one hour or so before we decided to stop for the night in a small town Madhya.
