Today's prompt for Day 14 of @theselflovesummit @iammelwells #AdventChallenge was to move dat body! I was sooo stiff and cold today and setting aside time for a luxuriously long stretch and flow was exactly what I needed. Here's a clip of a simple, grounding segment of tonight's practice that felt particularly nice 💕
I love being able to see how my body and flexibility changes throughout an entire flow--you can see here that my left hamstring is a little less warmed up and flexible than my right, and my shoulders are just beginning to loosen up too. A lot of people think flexibility is achieved in milestones that you pass one by one, and to a certain extent that's true, but just like strength it changes every day.
Also, what your body can do warm and cold is vastly different! Sure, I CAN slide into a split without warming up, but it would be forcing myself past the point of discomfort and risking injury. My range of motion after 45 minutes of yoga or aerials is far greater than at the start of a session, and on cold days or after a hard workout I'm way more stiff than usual and take longer to get into certain poses. That's just how bodies work! Every asana and segment of a flow is one that is showing love to yourself and should be celebrated, even if it isn't as "impressive" as later poses. I chose this clip out of what was recorded of my flow tonight because it felt so good--and you can tell by the smile on my face 😊
