Looking at this pic, I bet you’re thinking the leaner one (macro counting) is what changed my life and helped me find a good relationship with food. I’d love to tell you that, but it all began with Intuitive Eating! I had been counting macros for years, but I needed a break and the concept of Intuitive Eating helped dissipate any “tracking guilt.” Once I had the foundations of a healthy food relationship, I’d occasionally incorporate tracking back into my life when I wanted to get more precise with goals.
The point isn’t to say which is better. I have done both and love both! I think it’s important to recognize there is no one size-fits-all. There might be a time and season for both. Figure out what works for you. I’ve had clients who don’t thrive with Intuitive Eating because they need more structure and want to lose weight by conscientiously regulating food. I’ve had clients who obsess over macro counting and therefore can’t develop proper food freedom. ————
So which one should you choose? Intuitive Eating is great for those who wish to develop food freedom, but don’t have particular goals other than to reach the healthy weight for their body type. Tracking macros is for those with goals like getting as lean as possible/gain muscle and be more informed with how each macronutrient affects their body. Food freedom with macro counting is not guaranteed but likely for those who are typical “binge dieters.” Again, both are great! But remember, not everything works for everyone. Honestly assess yourself and decide which approach would work best for YOU! Like me, the answer could be BOTH! ————
