I could go to the gym except X, maybe Iโ€™ll go after Y. The list continues and it feels never ending. This used to make me feel defeated, if Iโ€™m being totally honest. Missing a โ€œgym workoutโ€ felt like I was not disciplining myself enough and Iโ€™d mentally beat myself up for it. But in these past few months, Iโ€™ve reframed my thinking and what I perceive as working out and being strong. See this cuddly pup right here? I take her for 4-5 mile walks a day. Sure, I could cut that time in half to go squeeze in some weights. But the point is, sheโ€™s worth my time. She needs exercise too. She depends on me to give it to her. And would it be fair for me to be selfish by cutting the little bit of time she gets outside? No. She deserves better and I deserve to be better too. This past year has been a huge life shift for me - I now have an apartment, bills, work, 3 animals, grad school and myself all to take care of. Before, I was able to go to the gym knowing that when I came home there would be food in the fridge and no other โ€œadultโ€ responsibilities. My life has made a true shift, and I wouldnโ€™t change it because I love every ounce of it! So I may not be physically going to the gym at much, but mentally I am stronger than ever. I work so hard in all areas of my life, and โ€œworkoutโ€ in other ways other than the gym. I couldnโ€™t be prouder of myself for learning to mentally shift too. And then on those days I can go to the gym, I cherish every moment of it and make it a killer workout. I think thatโ€™s what fitness is all about ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thought Iโ€™d share a couple of finals week gym tips for my fellow students out there: .
โžก๏ธUSE the gym to refocus!! I like to break up long days of studying with some exercise to get my blood flowing and help get myself on track again. I get really antsy and tired sitting for long periods of time so getting movement in really helps to wake me back up and give me some motivation to keep studying. .
โžก๏ธGO MID-DAY. Especially for my fellow huskies, the gym has been empty around lunch time so youโ€™re able to get in and out without having to wait for equipment ๐Ÿ™‚ .
.โžก๏ธFULL BODY workouts will give you the most bang for your buck time-wise. Compound lifts and supersets working different muscle groups are the most intense and time efficient so I highly recommend combining these kinds of exercises when in a time crunch. .
.
This week my workouts are consisting of one main heavy lift like squats, deadlifts, bench, hip thrusts, etc. and then some intense supersets, aiming for a variety of exercises that end up hitting most muscle groups and spiking my heart rate.
Remember the gym is a great way to destress but that school should be your priority. ๐Ÿค“ If you can fit it in this week great! But if not, donโ€™t beat yourself up over it, put your efforts where it really counts. Hang in there friends, weโ€™re so close to the end and CHRISTMAS, the most magical time of year WOO๐Ÿคฉ๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿผ๐ŸŽ„๐Ÿค—
