Yesterday, I did something really really cool and exciting, something I wish more people out there would know about because I’m sure many would LOVE it! And that’s exactly what I’m hoping to achieve with sharing my experience with you guys What I did is simply called „floating“. However, it’s much more than that. I would even go as far as calling it a massage for my mind. Just as a body massage stimulates the muscles to relax and activate them, floating relaxes and activates the brain, the mind, the imagination, however you wanna call it but in a different way: By NOT stimulating it:
All I had to do was lying down in a tank, like the one you see on the 2nd picture, filled with very salty water. The massive amount of salt makes the body float on top of the water without even one muscle having to be contracted. Fucking weird but cool feeling. What made the experience even more fascinating is that the water is kept at the average temperature of the human skin, so after a little while it didn’t feel like floating in water at all. I didn’t feel where my body ended and the water started. Sometimes I even had to wiggle a little bit or splash some water because the feeling got too intense.
To the loss of feeling came a totally light-deprived, soundproof room. I‘ve spent an hour in complete sensual deprivation, and it was magical! As you can imagine, this gave my mind a huge playground to basically do whatever it felt like doing. After getting used to it it’s the best environment I could ever imagine to keep creativity flowing, to meditate, to think, or to simply relax.
I am so glad that finally I had the guts to try floating out myself.
Writing about it still makes me excited about the slightly scary feeling at the start and the entirely energized and relaxed state I was in after exiting the tank. It really felt like it was the start of a new chapter, like turning the page and discovering another, entirely empty piece of paper.
To all my friends back home and all around the world, please go for it! You can even do it in Graz, so no excuses there. ;) I promise you this is something out
