I read the book Overdressed, the shockingly high cost of cheap fashion, a few months ago and it sent me on the journey I am currently. It inspired me to push my limited sewing experience to the furthest extent and try to make some clothes. I made a shirt a couple months ago and it looks like a shirt! I made it out of a second hand duvet cover. By reusing material that already exists we are reducing our footprint.
My recent success story with clothing making is this shirt (a bed sheet) and short overalls from two pairs of very large, second hand jeans!
Making your own clothing really gives you perspective on what goes into the items we buy. It also makes you feel like a badass. I have done so many happy dances today having completed both of these in the same day!
Have you made any of your own clothing?
