A Crab Spider on a Yellow Buttercup during the Golden Hour
The Crab Spiders, also known as the Flower Spiders, barely grow to be 1 cm in length. Since most of the body is white, these arachnids easily stand out against flowers that are vibrant yellow in color, especially in the Golden Hour light. The Yellow Buttercup (Hibbertia sp.) is a spreading native shrub that can be around a meter high. The attractive 5 petalled flowers are usually up to 25 millimeters across and slightly aromatic. These common flora are native to South-West of Western Australia (SW-WA) and flower between the months of April and December. However, depending on the rainfall, I have occasionally seen Yellow Buttercups bloom in the late summer e.g. in February 2017 when Perth received over 100 millimeters of rainfall. This shot was taken at the Brixton St Nature Reserve in Kenwick (City of Gosnells), one of the most ecologically significant remnant wetlands of the Perth region that is also listed as a Bush Forever Site (no 387). #brixtonstreetwetlands #perth #perthflowers #southwest #westernaustralia #wildflowers #wildflowerseason #crabspider #flowerspider #spider #arachnid #buttercup #hibbertia #yellow #macrophotography #insectsofinstagram #flowersofinstagram #goldenhour #goldenhourlight #splendid_flowers
