Dinner at @bellemorechicago in West Loop, Chicago
Been finding an opportunity to try Bellemore after the surge of great reviews since they've opened late last year. Finally got a chance to visit last month.
The standouts were definitely the veal sweetbreads, seared octopus (surprising since I hate peas!), Hawaiian rolls, and the chocolate dessert.
The shaved foie gras sounded a lot more impressive than it was (monotone flavor, uninteresting texture); the duck was good but really overpriced for the portion ($36); and the passion fruit mousse was provocative enough with its interesting texture (marshmallow mixed with meringue?), but the flavor just didn't do anything for me.
Overall, though, really great meal for a reasonable price ($50ish before drinks/tax/tip per person), and glad that a restaurant is making great use of the space after the whole Embeya debacle a few years back (at least we have @haisouschicago born out of that). Was also lucky enough to catch up with @ell_mee while exploring the menu! Glad to hear she's doing some incredible things while also being a new mom. Many baby-related laughs were had. Hope to do it again sometime soon!
