Good morning, bookworms! I’m starting off my day with a breakfast of scones topped with jam and clotted cream inspired by the delicious breakfasts served at the Hotel Deucalion. Hopefully I can channel a little bit of wunder today and step boldly into my last lecture of the quarter! I cannot believe how fast this quarter has gone by—I’ve been teaching a course on gender in media, a topic near and dear to my heart, and I lucked out with a fantastic group of students so it’s been a real pleasure! While I’m sad to be wrapping up the course today I’m certainly looking forward to flying back to Toronto on Saturday for the Christmas holidays!

Вообще-то у меня были совсем другие планы на эту неделю — в смысле, я собиралась показать вам совсем другой рецепт. Но с ним вышло недоразумение 😏 В такой ситуации самое разумное — призвать на помощь шоколадный торт. И книгу Вудхауса. Эти двое никогда не подведут.

📖«Уютный уголок», как всякий немедленно догадается по названию, — это чайная на Бонд-стрит, которую содержит страдающая дама».

🇬🇧В начале XX века в Англии чайные открывались в большом количестве. Подобные заведения предлагали своим посетителям чай, домашнюю выпечку и особую атмосферу. Не слишком респектабельные и солидные, они, тем не менее, обладали кое-чем поистине притягательным — например, шоколадным тортом собственного приготовления🎂 Хорошая штука для нуждающихся в утешении.

😋Независимо от того, нуждаетесь ли вы в утешении, или, наоборот, хотите что-нибудь отпраздновать, я рекомендую вам с ним познакомиться. Melted chocolate is rebellious stuff! This was our fourth attempt to drizzle just the right amount onto our peppermint creams. We had to eat the misfires, obviously - in the interest of research. Golly they're scrummy...and brilliant presents for children to make for their favourite people🎁🎁🎁

So about Benito Cereno... Its a story about the a ship transporting slaves that comes to misfortune. I've been thinking about it a lot because I would love to hear this story written from the point of view of the slaves. I think it would be fascinating. It's hard to talk about without spoilers, but a story called 'Bebo the Hero' or 'Benito and Bebo' needs to be told. I did some research and there are a couple of poems that do this, but a full story that completely flips the script would be perfect. Tag any authors you think could pull it off. I think #yaagyasi would do an amazing job of it. .

Dilluns es van anunciar els guardonats dels @premisbutaca i el millor muntatge teatral va ser per a "Sopa de pollastre amb ordi" de la @cia_laperla29 (MOLTES FELICITATS!). A l'abril vaig assistir a una de les representacions de l'obra i vaig gaudir tant que em van crear la necessitat de llegir l'obra (Chicken Soup with Barley, 1958) d'Arnold Wesker, traduïda al català el 1986 per Manuel de Pedrolo.

"Sopa de pollastre amb ordi" explica la història d'una família obrera, els Kahn, d'origen jueu i profundes conviccions socialistes. L'acció comença el 1936 amb les càrregues policials de la batalla de Cable Street, quan el veïnat del barri de l'East End londinenc impedeix la marxa pels seus carrers d'una manifestació organitzada per la Unió de Feixistes Britànics. SOPA DE POLLASTRE AMB ORDI. Recepta
120gr d'ordi
1 1/2 de brou de pollastre
100gr de carn de pollastre cuita i desfilada
sal i pebre

La nit abans poseu l'ordi en remull.
Posar el brou a bullir.
Escórrer l'ordi que ha estat un remull i abocar-lo al brou quan aquest ja bulli. Deixar coure a foc lent fins que l'ordi estigui cuit (50 minuts aproximadament).
Al darrer moment, afegir el pollastre.
