Yesterday, I weighed in at 266. I'm just glad that I have gained my weight back. I also didn't go to the gym yesterday because the husband and I had the day off together which doesn't happen very often so we spent the day actually together. So hit the gym tonight and all I have to say is that it'll be nice to lose weight to a point that is healthy but that doesn't matter as much right now. I've been just focusing on the weight machines because cardio makes me miserable. And you know what? I feel really good. That's what I feel like is important with exercise. To find something that you enjoy and makes you feel good, then stick with that. And that's what I'm doing 😊💙

The seasons are changing, the snow stoke is high & I'm diving head first into a new elimination challenge to get my body ready for the winter 🙏🏼 For the next 10 days I will be eliminating alcohol, caffeine, dairy, gluten, processed foods, refined sugars & eating after 6 pm. By doing so I am aiming to slightly reset my metabolism so that I begin to crave more nourishing/whole foods, increase my energy levels & gain more mental clarity. I have always liked following an elimination food plan because it doesn't necessarily make me feel like I am restricting myself of certain foods but more like I am recognizing what foods trigger certain things in my body such as inflammation, poor digestion, lower energy levels, unnecessary hunger, etc & how I can develop more mindful eating practices & eliminate those foods that are no longer serving me. Humans everywhere seek to alter their consciousness. Alcohol, drugs, plants, and foods all alter consciousness. Distinguishing between altering consciousness as a method for healing or as a self-medication method is essential to mental health recovery. Understanding what is being altered and why is essential to identify alternative nutritional and lifestyle strategies.

The intake of drugs and alcohol stimulates neurotransmitter release and creates a sense of pleasure and reward in the brain. Over time these exogenous chemicals suppress the brain's ability to produce it's own chemistry. For example, most addictive substances cause an increase in the the production of the neurotransmitter dopamine. Overstimulation of the production of dopamine leads to depleted dopamine levels, and in turn, a lack of pleasure in life. This then drives the cycle of using more dopamine-stimulating substances in order to manage these depleted neurotransmitter levels in an attempt to regain a pleasurable feeling. 🔸
Along with nutrient deficiencies, substance abuse contributes to primary and secondary malnutrition. Primary malnutrition occurs do to lack of food intake, while secondary malnutrition occurs as a result of the ways specific substances impairs the digestion and absorption of nutrients. 🔸
The cause of drug or alcohol dependence remains unclear. It represents a multifactorial condition with genetic, physiological, psychological, and social factors, all of which are equally important. 🔸
The body is an incredible machine that is constantly working towards homeostasis both in the body and the brain. Proper nutrition plays a critical role in both the substance abuse healing process and sustainable recovery.

This is like the green milkshake I never had when I was a kid - frothy and delicious.
B L E N D
1C frozen zucchini quarters
1 medium banana
2 juicy medjool dates
2C plant mylk (whatever tickles your fancy)
1-2 scoops you guessed it - collagen
1tspn organic matcha + cinnamon
1/4tspn vanilla bean & tulsi/holy basil powder (good for adrenals & hypothyroidism)
Optional: 1 handful baby spinach, small chunk fresh ginger.

My amazing friend gave me this postcard of all these adorable little kids potty training. How cute, right? And I'm flattered this made her think of ME. Got me thinking though...have you ever noticed that people love talking about poop when it comes to their babies or dogs? Obsessing with their babysitter or dog walker over how much, how many times, what color, cinsistency, etc. If you’re a human or dog parent, you know what I'm talking about.
