#breakfast I’m certainly no food photog, but this is one of my go to breakfasts on this healing journey, so I wanted to share it. 🍳 Right now, I’m focused on eating veggies and quality fats and proteins. #candidadiet looks a lot like #keto, but I’m not focusing on counting macros or anything. Just eating the right stuff. The main thing is absolutely NO sugar, so no salsa on this bad boy, but I did add some green chilies for a flavor boost!

The term “broken metabolism,” we’ve all heard it, but do you know what that even means?
.
It’s referring to the long term effects of putting your body in survival mode for far too long. Your body doesn’t see calorie restriction as a good thing. In fact, when your body doesn’t get enough fuel, it thinks STARVATION and changes your hormones accordingly.
.
How you’re hormones are impacted by restriction:
👉🏼 SEX HORMONES // your body doesn’t want to be reproducing or taking the time to procreate when there’s not enough food to go around, so your sex hormones start to suffer. This can lead to hair loss, low libido, infertility, irritability, headaches, cravings and period problems.

👉🏼HPA AXIS: when in a calorie deficit, the pituitary and hypothalamus hormones in the brain start to send signals to your adrenals to produce more cortisol. Cortisol starts to break down muscle to be used for glucose first. Fat is the last thing you lose in a calorie deficit. This can lead to muscle loss aka “skinny fat”, drooping belly fat, anxiety, depression and sleep problems.

👉🏼THYROID: I’ll argue that this little gland suffers the most when it comes to dieting. This is why hypothyroidism is an epidemic right now amongst women. How can you expect you master thermostat to keep the cells energized if there’s not enough wood to burn? This can lead to fatigue, weight gain, hair loss, dry skin and lack of drive.

The 1,200 calorie rule is a joke, ladies. You need at least 1,800 calories to just get simple tasks done like breathing, metabolizing or detoxifying. On top of that, try healing and repairing your cells when you add in exercise. You need some serious fuel.

There is no VALUE in eating less than the person next to you; going to bed hungry; brushing your teeth or drinking water when you’re hungry; still being hungry after you eat .
Let’s make eating sexy again and be some well-fed women, yeah? ✨🖤 .

RICE CAKES TOPPED WITH ALMOND BUTTER & BANANA 🍌 ✅ Rice cakes are a great low-carb alternative to bread (they are also naturally gluten-free), are low in calories and extremely low in fat & sugar (a trace). ✅ Almond butter contains less sugar & salt than some peanut butters and more fibre and protein. ✅Bananas contains potassium which supports blood pressure, cardiovascular health and bone/muscle strength.

Thai peanut noodles with shrimp and veggies🍜🍤🥬makes 4 servings

8 oz @traderjoes brown rice quinoa pasta #glutenfree
1 lb. cooked shrimp (can be prepped before)
2 bulbs baby bok choy chopped
1/2 bag of shredded cabbage mix
1 package shitaki mushrooms
Sauté veggies in a little sesame oil 💥Thai peanut sauce
1/4 c. smooth peanut butter
1/4 c. low sodium soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tbsp honey
1/2-1 tsp chili paste or sauce
1 tbsp rice or apple cider vinegar
2 cloves minced garlic
1/2 tsp ginger
3 tbsp water
Mix all ingredients together
when noodles are done pour over the noodles, add shrimp and veggies
ENJOY!

The first step I took in balancing my hormones naturally was eating organic. The pesticides and chemicals sprayed on crops will throw your endocrine system into chaos, which is responsible for the production/regulation of hormones. I’ve done a lot of incredible things in my life but one that stands out to me was the day we went into a Malian school in Mali 🇲🇱, it was absolutely incredible seeing how passionate all these children where about learning, we taught the adults basic first aid to help the children if in need and we taught the children basic phrases in English which that absolutely loved. It was an incredible experience I will always remember, oh and after we had a huge football match and they absolutely thrashed us. They’re so good at football, or maybe we’re just terrible.

Working from home so got to whip up this anti-inflammatory purple sweet potato bowl 🍠🤩

I’ll admit eating my veggies in the morning still takes some getting used to, but man this bowl is insane.

❓What is it❔
1 steamed small purple sweet potato drizzled in @foragerproject vanilla cashewgurt, almond butter, blueberries, and hemp seeds

🍠Purple sweet potatoes {and all purple foods} are huge players in the anti inflammation game. Mostly due to a photochemical called anthocyanin.⚛️

Like regular sweet potatoes, this variety is also an amazing way to get beta-carotene & there’s research that including fat (like almond butter) can help increase ⬆️our body’s absorption of bc.

Aside from these 2 properties, sweet potatoes also have a low glycemic index and high fiber to keep you fuller longer🙌🏻

Target had a cartwheel offer for Navitas products a few weeks back and I picked up a bag of goji berries (the only ingredient is organic goji berry). 3 tbsp these = 140% of your daily vitamin A. They also are a source of potassium, iron, calcium and protein. In my opinion they remind me of tea...but I don't drink tea! I prefer not to eat them plain. We have put them on rice cakes with nut butter. 🖤

Remember the other week I showed @ooweeitsbee teaching me how to make kimchi? Well it’s ready! I had kimchi before and really liked it, but nothing hit like @ooweeitsbee’s homemade kimchi. Not only is kimchi delicious, but the benefits are endless—It’s fermented process means it’s jam packed with probiotics. This helps with digestion. Of course like with any food too much of a good thing can turn into a not so good thing. Just pace yourself!

For those of you who can’t tolerate nightshades there are plenty of kimchi recipes without them or just omit them yourself. For me it goes perfect with steamed veggies, scrambled eggs, crispy kale, or just solo!
