Evidenced-Based Music || Be Healthy by @deadprez
🎶“Lentil soup is mental fruit.”🎶
Surely you’ve heard of evidence-based medicine, but how about some evidence-based tunes? 🎵 Can we talk about LENTILS!? I ♥️lentils. I eat them at least 4x/week. They are one of my top 5 favorite plant foods. I think I’m in good company:
@deadprez gave them a lyrical shoutout, and @michaelgregermd, who arguably knows more about nutrition science than anyone, says you should eat 3 servings of beans/legumes a day. I think he would agree that the research suggests that beans are one of the healthiest foods on the planet. And so would the @bluezones research, which cites beans as “the cornerstone of every longevity diet in the world.” Swipe above to see why lentils are great for your brain. And don’t just take it from me, head over to @nutrition_facts_org to learn even more about lentils.
All legumes are 🔥, but lentils are my personal fave. They agree with my digestion, are incredibly versatile, keep me full, are inexpensive, and cook quickly. The USDA (2016) cites the average cost of dried lentils as 22¢/cup. Organic canned lentils in my area are about 66¢/cup. @traderjoes also sells seasoned, steamed lentils in the refrigerated section, which are about $1.45/cup.
Prepared lentils are of course the fastest (add ‘em to 🥗, 🍜, 🍝 & other noodle dishes), but even dried lentils are quick, & the fastest cooking legumes: 15-25 minutes, no soaking required.
The versatility of lentils is made obvious by the myriad of cultures that eat them. Ancient Syrians, Greek, Romans, Hebrews, & Egyptians ate lentils. South and West Asian & Mediterranean cultures eat the most lentils in present day. Lentils are often prepared in Indian & Middle Eastern cultures in rice dishes, in soups in North and South America, & in Ethiopian stews.
