Ensure that your lower back is always flat on the floor, even if that means that your legs might not be as straight, that’s fine. This becomes much harder the longer you hold it as the abs begin to fatigue. When that happens you’ll notice that your lower back muscles kick in. When and if that happens, it’s your sign to stop.

Sempre attuale il tema dei #solfiti: è stato oggetto di qualche domanda all’enologo anche in occasione di Vino in Villa.
La dicitura “contiene solfiti” continua a destare sospetto sull’etichetta delle bottiglie. L’obiezione sollevata al vino riguarda anche albicocche, banane e prugne e altra frutta essiccata, pomodori secchi, biscotti e altro prodotti da forno con frutta essiccata, succo di limone a lunga conservazione, crostacei e polpo confezionati freschi o surgelati e stoccafisso?
I solfiti negli alimenti sono molti e evidenti sulle etichette di: anidride solforosa E220, Solfito di sodio E221, Bisolfito di sodio E222, Metabisolfito di sodio E223, Metabisolfito di potassio E224, Solfito di potassio E225, Solfito di calcio E226, Bisolfito di calcio E227, Potassio solfito acido E228.

La dose giornaliera di assunzione accettabile, ADI, di anidride solforosa è stata fissata in 0,7 mg/kg/die: vale a dire che una persona di 70kg non deve superare 49 mg al giorno.

Per quanto riguarda il vino il limite massimo nella Comunità Europea sul contenuto finale di solfiti è: 160 mg/litro per il rosso e 210 mg/litro per il bianco. Con valori superiori il vino non può essere messo in commercio.

A conti fatti dunque chi consuma alimenti freschi e non confezionati e conservati e beve un calice di vino rosso da 100 ml alla peggio ne assume 16 mg, o 21 mg se sceglie il bianco!

A tutela di tutti, soprattutto in termini di effetti cumulativi data dall’assunzione di più alimenti e bevande che contengono solfiti è comunque in attesa di nuovi studi da parte dell’EFSA.

Raising children at this time, in this world, is terrifying for me. Most days I am so worried about doing too little, doing too much, not saying the right things, saying too much, pushing too hard, or not pushing hard enough. Parenting in general is so exhausting- then you add in social media & everything else that is preying on our children and overwhelming doesn’t even begin to describe!

But I am reminded, they might be my earthly children- but they’re God’s children first. Fear is real & terrifying. Proverbs 31 Ministries & Kathi Lipp spoke about parenting fearlessly & I LOVED this part:

How do we moms transition from parenting out of fear to fearless parenting?

1. Talk about the steadfastness of God. God has given us a spirit of power and we are powerful because we are His. Make sure your kids know the power they possess because of Who lives in them.
.
2. Teach your kids how to love others well. You are their first example and their first teacher of loving well. Loving when circumstances are tough and when your kids are difficult are both great examples. Then, teaching your kids to love people even when they are unlovable is one of the best skills they can possess.
.
3. Transition from the role of protector. It’s easy to want to stay in the role of our kids’ protector longer than we should. And with all that goes on in the world, who can blame a mom for wanting to keep her family safe?
.

Eat for function. Eat for performance. The endless garbage we consume needs to be limited. -

I am not one that is deadly strict on what I eat. I enjoy my beer, pizza and donuts as well as the next guy. But I will always do so knowing how much I’m allowed to have. Portion control. -

The difference in the amount of food you can have in 1600 kcals based off what you chose to put in your body is remarkable! And a great comparison.

FINALLY BACK WITH ANOTHER #FoodScienceSaturday
Wow! I’ve been slacking on these, but now that I’m home for the summer I’ll definitely be posting these every week again! Today, I wanted to share some information on how to gain maximum muscle through nutrition 💪🏽🥗🥕🥦
So you wanna build muscle? I’m sure you’re well aware that strength training needs to be apart of your workout plan. But did you know that when you’re working out your muscles you’re not building them, but actually straining and “breaking” them? It’s after your workout during your rest period that new muscle is made, & your nutrition after and before work outs can help you reach optimum muscle gains! About an hour before your workouts, you want a small meal that will be high in carbohydrates. This is going to allow your body to use that glucose in the food as energy during the workout and spare glycogen stores which will put off exhaustion and allow for longer and harder workouts. Immediately following your exercise your should consume another small high carb meal to replace glycogen stores lost during the exercise. Then, about an hour after your workout you can have a more balanced meal, ensuring you have a good source of protein as part of the meal. Waiting until after your glycogen stores are replenished to consume protein will ensure that more protein goes towards repairing and building new muscles rather than it being used towards replacing glycogen stores (because fun fact: protein can be used to replace glycogen stores in the body when needed!). Making sure you replace glycogen stores before consuming your protein will allow for optimal growth of your muscles! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
So basically the formula for optimal muscle growth via nutrition is CHO then resistance training then CHO then CHO+ protein+ fat!

Fasting means to eat only small meals, or none at all, for long periods of time. This can be done every day or even one day a month. Different types of intermittent fasting consist of alternate day fasting or ingesting less than 600 calories a day, eating a regular diet five days a week and only 600 calories the remaining two days, and lastly eating all of one’s calories during a 4-8 hour window. These different types of fasting can be tailored to fit each individuals needs and schedules, with the addition of not needing to eat breakfast.

I am such a huge fan of these! These have slow digesting carbs so I know that if I’m going to class, or going to be busy for a little while that it will keep me sustained, and not in “starvation mode”, as I like to call it. When we’re hungry we’re losing muscle! These are definitely 10/10 for me and taste deliciousssss. These don’t have a lot of protein, but protein can always be paired with! 🌟💖

Paying attention to your daily suggested servings for certain foods can really help you out in the long run. Being aware of these servings can help reduce overeating certain foods and encourage you to eat more of certain foods that you may need more of in your diet. For most raw vegetables, the daily serving is usually one cup although it may vary. For example, the daily suggested serving for cooked asparagus is about 6 whole spears. This knowledge is great for developing a meal prep system as well! The more knowledge you have of how much of what to put into your body, the healthier you will feel.

I hear talk all across the board about saturated fats. Good? Bad? Both? In balance, healthy saturated fat from REAL sources like coconut oil or Olive oil or fish is GOOD. From fake sources like Pop-tarts...not so good.

Ide make this analogy || Good fats and cholesterol are kind of like a good plaster or drywall finish. If you know what you are doing when you plaster a hole in your wall, you will get a nice smooth finish. If you don't, you get a cracked shitty finish.

Good fats go through our body and help seal any rips or molecular cuts we receive from natural wear and tear like cytokins. Bad fats also do this. The difference is the plastering job. The good fats plaster nice and smooth, almost like the tear was never there. Bad fats plaster cracked and shitty - which in turn allows plaque to get stuck on these uneven, rageed surfaces and create blockages, leading to an AMI, HBP, Stroke and more.

Of course this is only one of the many things that fats do in our body buut ~
Point is - don't be afraid of fat! We should not be afraid of food. Be afraid of FAKE food. Be afraid of fake everything.. 😓🙄

New knowledge turned into everyday wisdom. Lacy became in tune with what makes her feel good nutritionally, mentally, physically and emotionally. It is easier for her to identify what she needs because her whole self is in line. She has balance. Not my prettiest meal but definitely one of my favorites 😋🙌🏽
I slept in today since it’s my one day off this week so I decided to have one large brunch instead of trying to fit in both breakfast and lunch. First, I sautéed up some cubed sweet potato (pro tip: cover cubes with wet paper towel and microwave for one minute first to speed up cooking time!) then added one scrambled egg, pepper jack cheese, 2 slices of turkey bacon, and topped with avocado and salsa!! Guys, I’ve had this almost every day this week and I can’t get enough!! Also, I was super excited because I FINALLY invested in a protein powder after meaning to buy one for months. I’m pretty pleased with this one as far as ingredients, taste, and price, BUT if you have other recommendations let me know!! Needless to say, I am very satisfied and full 😂 but I’m super ready to check some stuff off my to do list today! Happy hump day ya’ll 💕
