Honey Harvesting | Photograph by Terra Fondriest (@terrafondriest)
Local beekeepers in the Arkansas Ozarks remove honey from hives scattered around their property. "The Usrey brothers learned beekeeping from their father," says #YourShotPhotographer Terra Fondriest. "He’s kept bees most of their lives, but his health can’t keep up with it anymore, so the boys do the hive work now."

Today we are featuring @natgeoyourshot photographs selected for @natgeo “Photo of the Day.” To see more, go to natgeo.com/pod.

Photo by Stephanie Sinclair @stephsinclairpix | @tooyoungtowed. The United Nations has called the war in Yemen the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, and a recent UN report estimated that more than two-thirds of Yemeni girls are now being married off before 18, compared to 50 percent before the start of the conflict. When a child becomes a bride, she loses the chance to go to school, the right to make decisions about her health, and the ability to determine her future. In 2011 @natgeo published my story, titled @tooyoungtowed; I’ve since created a nonprofit organization of the same name to #empowergirls and #endchildmarriage. In partnership with @solidariosinfronteras, we are now providing 25,000 breakfasts to schoolgirls in war-torn Yemen as an incentive for parents to keep girls in school, when a looming famine makes child marriage an increasingly attractive option to families desperate for one less mouth to feed. The World at Night project
A couple of nights ago in a remote corner of the Death Valley, California, one of the driest places on the planet and a vast Dark Sky Park, where natural night is protected from light pollution. Stars of Orion, the Hunter, are the icons of the winter sky, next to Sirius, the brightest star in the Earth night sky. The yellow glow on the horizon, from the surprising distance of 150 miles, is the light of Los Angeles.
Follow me @babaktafreshi for photos that take you from the Earth to the universe.

@salvarezphoto | In Southern Utah, three female figures have stood overlooking the canyon for millennia. Imagine the changes they have seen: Drought, flood, cultures come and go; villages flourish and then are abandoned; native peoples replaced by Europeans looking for gold, oil, gas, uranium. These paintings stand as witnesses. They were made by the Basketmakers, a culture that collectively spanned the introduction of corn into the Southwest. I shot them scouting for a @natgeo grant and an @ancientartarchive project looking at art both in and left out of Bears Ears National Monument. #utah
