It’s time for another installment of our story for National Adoption Awareness Month. On the same day that we decided we would soon begin the process of becoming certified foster parents, we found out that we were expecting. We were stunned and overjoyed. At first, we thought that we would do it all - raise a toddler, grow a pregnancy, certify for foster care, and balance our careers - but within a couple months, it was clear that our priority needed to be the baby in my belly. Calvin arrived early, secured himself a VIP spot in the NICU, and became our last baby to conceive and carry. Calvin’s story (this is just a smidge of it) is so important because his arrival was both a beginning and an end. That’s why we share this part of our journey to adoption. Our boys, Firecracker and Sunshine, inspired us to celebrate the heck out of life, and to keep going and keep growing well beyond what our genetics and biology allowed. And that we did! If you’re planning on adopting, we hope that you won’t put pressure on yourself to be perfect or on time. Actually, plan on being late from here on out, which will probably end up be right on time for YOU. Celebrate every little thing because they truly do add up to be the big things. Now, excuse us while we take a stroll down memory lane in our photo albums. How are these precious boys already six and almost eight? How am I this far behind on my Project Life album? Oh, yeah...not behind or late, just right on time. 📷 by my incredible brother-in-law, Ben Sandberg.
