Ok, this is my new favorite thing. I always thought it was kind of ugly so never bought it 😂 but I tried it today and man oh man...new obsession. I’ve been on my computer all day and had this burning - it smells amazing in here and it’s so peaceful.
Religious leaders have shown us for what seems like forever that burning “incense” is good for the soul. Now, biologists have discovered its good for our brain too! An international team of scientists, including researchers from Johns Hopkins University and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem describe how burning Frankincense resin (from the Boswellia plant) activates channels in the brain to alleviate anxiety or depression. When researchers administered the specific constituents to mice they found it significantly affected areas in the brain known to be involved in emotions as well as in nerve circuits that are affected by current anxiety & depression drugs. This discovery should also help us understand diseases of the nervous system.
You may be familiar with the essential oil. Truthfully, it’s one that took me a while to appreciate, but once I did...it’s become a favorite. There is something just so soothing about it. It has quite a history...I’m sure you’ve heard the story about it being one of the gifts brought by the 3 Wise Men and given to baby Jesus. It was a precious commodity!
You may not know that the resin was also found in the tombs of Egyptian mummies; used as an embalming agent. We really love it on our skin, especially AHEM...those of us with more mature skin. 😉 It’s fantastic applied directly to your skin or added to your favorite moisturizer. That’s probably the way I use it most often.
We also use it in our “wellness” roller for when we need extra immune boosting oomph but I traditionally have just put it in my diffuser when I need to chill out. It’s grounding and calming and just takes you down a notch when you idle too high. And never, ever discount the tremendous value of just putting a drop or two in the palm of your hands, rub together, place over your nose & mouth and BREATHE DEEP. Ahhhh.
What is your favorite way to use Frank?
