I feel you. Like literally, I can feel you moving through my veins. You want to be somewhere you are not, somewhere a little different. You have your sights set on something. You want to be your “best self”. You want to take the potential you know is there, and knock it right out of the park.
But I have to tell you something - every time I hear you wanting and wishing for these things, I hear the discomfort and pain of where you are now, and who you are now. I hear judgements, and “not good enoughs.” I hear undercurrents of rage for the parts of your life you believe to be flawed. I hear you saying, “It would be better and I could be better if only this one little part of me didn’t exist.” But it does.
That part of you does exist.
My sweet sweet chop, the only way to move, and become, and change, and get bigger, is to look at that part. Your instinct is to look away and fix it blindly, but please don’t do that. Because fixing it means it’s broken, and it ain’t broken it’s just ugly. And the way we turn something ugly into something bearable and then something beautiful, is we see it. We walk up to it. We lock eyes with it, and we lay our hands on its shoulders as we behold it. We hug it, and love it, and tell it we’re sorry.
To move anywhere in life that’s different, we gotta look at where we are right now and who we are right now. We have to heal not fix. We have to stare the not-so-pretty in the eye long enough that we fall for it. We have to love our whole self, not just some of the parts.
And this quest - THIS is The Great Big Journey. This is the work.
