I didn’t forget about you 4 wk post followers!! I promise! It took me a while to figure out how to put this idea into words (and do it justice). You might read this and think, “Uhh, that doesn’t sound like anything out of the ordinary, Fran, that’s how I live my life.” Or you might be on the other side of things and respond with, “Wow, this is so powerful for where I’m at right now.” Here goes. •
I am continually inspired and encouraged by folks who have the courage to share the highs and lows of their journey through life with others. Whether it’s through getting real on social media, or a one to one conversation between friends, sharing and storytelling can be uplifting and even healing. •
Surely you’ve heard the saying, “it takes a village to raise a child.” In my opinion, it takes a village at any stage of life. Everyone needs a village. Maybe that village is family or a group of friends. It might be even more widespread or one person right now. Trusting that village and having the courage to share with others is another huge aspect of authenticity and fostering community (as part of a rich, full life). •
Step 3: Share your heart (and get out of your head)
Social media can be a great outlet and vehicle to share your heart but only if it’s what your heart is saying and not the edited, censored or #colesnotes version. It takes trust (of yourself and others), vulnerability, and courage to share anything - no matter the platform. We see so many triumphs and picture perfect moments on social media but there’s something to be said about valuing the not so picture perfect moments too. I’m not saying we need to all share our struggles and triumphs publically with the world on Instagram but maybe it starts as small as sharing the truth when a friend asks how we’re doing, instead of, “good, you?” or reaching out to someone in your village to check in. Would love to hear the unedited, uncensored version of how your day was in the comments.
