I volunteer to mentor at a tutoring program, but I end up doing everything but tutoring most of the time. Two weeks ago a group of young ladies that are usually so giddy and chatty that I am forced to break them up had broken themselves up in their seating. The energy was way off. I gathered them and we discussed the problem , but there were too many freshly open wounds. Last week I came to tutoring with safety pins and beads I scrounged up and told them about the tradition of friendship pins in the 80s. I asked each to make a pin for each of the others, write a short note about something they love about that person, fold the note around the pin and give it to them whenever they feel like it. Welp, the coordinator called and said all of the young people want make friendship pins and the girls are back to their usual antics. What if we could get each other to listen, work together or apologize with a safety pin and a few beads?

Any 80's kids out there??? If so, you will already be familiar with the 80's pop culture phenomenon that were "friendship pins". In the eighties, it was common to give away or trade these pins with your best friends and then proudly display them on your shoelaces.
Good news: I am single-handedly BRINGING BACK THE FRIENDSHIP PIN and they are available now in my shop at BEGINWITHINJEWELRY.COM
