Apologies for another quote but a person I have kind of known for quite some time that I hold in high regard has recently encouraged me with my writing and compared my "from the hip" style with Bukowski, Fante, Kerouac and Balzac (OMG). I'm not sure it's worthy of such an accolade but it has made me meditate on whether I am a writer or a person who writes, as there is a difference. Maybe time will tell. But it also made me realise that I not only need to write more (have more of a schedule) but I need to read more too. So I thought I would try and find some Bukowski and yesterday I stumbled upon this by accident (if coincidence even exists) and it reminded me that the universe always provides. Also, whilst a little more discipline may be helpful, as my writing is very "stream of consciousness" (my English teachers also told me this was my style) I need to trust that my next poems will spring up in transmission when their ready. I am currently writing an epic poem that I was challenged to do a while ago that I was very resistant about but it came when it was ready. Its very personal and a work in progress. I might post the odd short story I have written in the interim but I think I have a few new shorter poems brewing too. So watch this space.
Pigeon shit shield? Sun block? Sleep aid? It’s a popular move regardless. I didn’t even raise my camera when I took the shot of the sleeping taxi driver, so it’s a littlest out of focus, but I still like it. I do that quite a bit when I’m too timid to be seen taking a photo or just want to be surprised by the composition.
