FUNCTIONALITY: Can you touch your toes, lift your body up, or run for more than 30 seconds? I love weightlifting and continue to make progress with it, but I’ve started incorporating functional movements in my routine to improve my everyday strength. These include the TRX, bodyweight exercises, pull ups, push ups, and other low impact movements—developing an endurance that can be applied in the real world. This training recruits more muscles simultaneously rather than isolating a single group, and does so through full ranges of motion. Functional training provides strength that can translate into practical activities by improving overall balance, flexibility, coordination, and mobility!
