Heather from @city_bats_conservancy stopped by yesterday and brought one of her current wildlife rehab patients with her, this feisty baby alligator! This tiny ancient apex predator is an outreach animal at a nearby wildlife center and it was feeling under the weather, so Heather took it in for a visit to the veterinarian , Dr. Olson, at @varsityvetcenter who treats local wildlife pro bono.
The wildlife ambassador gator was brought in because it was losing weight which isn't good for a young growing alligator. After some diagnostic tests, including an x-ray that I included as the last photo, the doctor and nurses couldn't find anything wrong with the little crocodilian, which suggests the problem is behavioral or environmental rather than an ailment of some kind.
My wife, @lil_lar, who is a certified veterinarian nurse/technician, received her training and certification for wildlife rehabilitation under Heather! Laura often brings home all sorts of animals, especially babies, from work at @varsityvetcenter that I get to help take care of and of course photograph! I’ll periodically post some of these here on my Instagram, but check out @thevettechguestroom where Laura often uses my pictures of these adorable animals in her posts!
