Earlier this year, I really enjoyed 'The Shape Of Water'. So for our Mondaynight of Horror, I thought it right to watch 'Creature From The Black Lagoon', which I had never seen before.
This film is from 1954 and what was probably frightening back then isn’t anymore these days. So as a horror it might not be that challenging today. But the making of this movie is still impressive, even 64 years later. Despite the probably heavy suits all the (long!) underwater scenes still look so graceful and natural. It even succeeds to be sensual. It probably helps that it was black and white, seeing the production photos of those suits… But still, the film that remains after all those years is a lovestory, just as The Shape Of Water is.
And that 50s titlescreen just looks awesome, doesn't it?
